1SG Sandra Quaschnick
Corps First Sergeant
U.S. Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps

First Sergeant Sandra Quaschnick was born in Sacramento, California, and raised in Lodi, California.  She began playing the cornet at age 9 and switched to the trumpet at 16.  1SG Quaschnick attended California State University at Chico where she was granted a full scholarship to study trumpet at the school of music.  She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in music performance in 1985.  She continued her education at Indiana University at Bloomington where she attained her Masters of Music degree in trumpet performance and a minor in music theory in 1989.  In addition, she pursued a Masters in Library Science, while working on her doctorate in brass pedagogy.  In 1997, she auditioned and won a Bugle Musician position with The United States Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps.

1SG Quaschnick joined the U.S. Army in January of 1998 and came directly to The Old Guard after basic combat training.  She has held numerous duty assignments within the Fife and Drum Corps, including Bugle Musician, Library NCOIC, Unit Prevention leader (UPL) NCOIC, Bugle New Soldier Trainer, Section Leader, Unit S-1 Supervisor, and Bugle Group Leader. She currently serves as Corps Sergeant.  In addition, she has completed the Unit Prevention Leader, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), Equal Opportunity (EO) Facilitator and Combat Lifesaver Courses.   She has also been awarded UPL of the Year and received an Army Achievement Medal for performing in the Joint Service Military Ensemble at the International Women’s Brass Conference.  1SG Quaschnick plans to continue serving in the U.S. Army Fife and Drum Corps until retirement.

In addition to her performance and leadership duties within the Fife and Drum Corps, 1SG Quaschnick has pursued a professional career as a freelance musician in the Washington Metropolitan area, and served for six years as music librarian with the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington D.C. before joining the Fife and Drum Corps.
